HOW DID WE REVIVE THE ERA OF THE EARLY XIX CENTURY? DESIGN FOR RESTAURANT “KOD FAZANA”

Brief

The idea to open a new restaurant on the site of the former "Kod Fazana" inn, founded in 1822, had to be accompanied by adequate branding. The task of the complete visual identity, from the logo, through all channels of brand communication, was to convey to the guests the spirit of the past, bohemian times.

Solution

Restaurant Kod Fazana has a rich story. The restaurant concept includes not only food and drinks but also an authentic experience. The idea was to create an experience that guests would remember and to allow them to feel a touch of Vojvodina tradition and the history of Novi Sad. 

The starting point was historical materials—texts and photos from the archive. That helped us convey the experience of the era of romanticism, from which the inn itself comes, through the art direction. A logo was created, which, in style and typography, reminds us of the times when the inn was first established. 

Menus and table liners (coasters) contain segments taken from historical materials, so in this restaurant, a portion of history is served before a portion of food. Thus, from the moment the guest enters the authentic ambiance of the restaurant, through the visual identity and printed materials, we take the guest with their thoughts and mood to a Novi Sad inn from the beginning of the 19th century.

Result

In addition to practicality and design that adequately informs guests, the solutions exude the spirit of a different time, which actually represents a refresh in the hospitality industry. We could notice the positive reactions of the guests immediately after the restaurant’s opening through UGC, i.e., photos of the menu and drink list, which they publish on their social media.
